On the occasion of its 55th birthday in 2016 and considering the long-time Wagner tradition in the Netherlands, the Wagnergenootschap Nederland has instituted this prize for the International Vocal Competition 's-Hertogenbosch: the WAGNER PRIZE OF THE NETHERLANDS. Its existence is secured for a decade and will be awarded at the every two years Opera-edition of the IVC.
With the Wagner Prize for The Netherlands the Wagnergenootschap Nederland (WGN) and the Richard Wagner Foundation Netherlands (RWSN) aim to promote the work by composer Richard Wagner to the attention of audiences and musicians and to encourage young singers into this field.
The educational Wagner Prize of The Netherlands (€ 5.000) is focused on further development and professionalization of the talented winner, in the specific Wagner-repertoire.
The price will be awarded to a candidate who has been judged to be the best performer of a Wagner operatic excerpt in the competition and whose voice is suited to the singing of Wagner's work. The Prize will contribute to the cost of study courses/coaching with an internationally renowned Wagner specialist. The winner is ought to be a finalist, but must be at least admitted to the semi-finals.
